The data included in PhanSST have undergone extensive quality control (QC) checks, including:
(1) Community-sourced manual inspection of the (meta-)data from drill core sites via printed QC PDFs for each site and parsed by proxy type
(2) Community-sourced manual update to the foraminifera taxonomy, including the addition of an ecological tag
(3) Manual inspection of the (meta-)data from outcrop sites
(4) Automated QC checks to flag missing or inconsistent (meta-)data
For more details about the QC procedure, please see Judd et al. (2022).
If you have any questions, please contact us at PhanSST@outlook.com.

Drill Core Data
Data collected from drill cores were manually QC'ed by printing unique PDFs for each site, parsed by proxy type.
Expert volunteers from the paleoclimate community used the PDFs to assess the fidelity of the (meta-)data from each site based on standardized guidelines.
A record of this process, including issues that were identified and any subsequent modifications to the data files, is preserved in the spreadsheets below.

Foraminifera Taxonomy
The taxonomy of each species of planktonic foraminifera included in PhanSST was QC'ed by crowd-sourcing the collective knowledge of the paleoclimate community.
Species names were evaluated for accepted nomenclature and spelling, and an ecological tag was added to each species name.
Outdated taxonomy was updated, and the record of all issues identified and changes made can be found in the spreadsheets below.

Outcrop Data
The majority of macrofossil carbonate data and conodont phosphate data originally derive from the database of Grossman and Joachimski (2020).
These data were cross-checked with their original publication and missing metadata was filled in.
Specific comments, parsed by publication, can be found in the spreadsheet below.

Automated Checks
The database is also checked using an automated procedure to ensure, for example, that all entries are associated with the requisite metadata and follow a consistent naming convention. To view the script associated with this procedure, please visit the our GitHub page.
